RUDOLF TSCHUDI

Biography
(Swiss/American, b. 1855, Switzerland - d. 1923, Cincinnati)
Rudolf Tschudi was born in Schwanden-Glarus, Switzerland, where he studied under H. Ruch.
He was known as a portrait, landscape, and still life painter.
Rudolf immigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he spent most of his life. Shortly after his arrival, he won First Prize at the Ohio Mechanics’ Institute in 1874. He married a German native, Bertha Messer, in 1878, with whom he had several children.
Rudolf was an active member of the Cincinnati Art Club, and a friend of Frank Duveneck in his later years. He also won a medal at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition.
His work can be found in many corporate and private collections, including the Evanston School, Cincinnati; the Kunsthaus, Glarus; and the Cosmopolitan Bank, Cincinnati. Two of his works, Entrance to Burnet Woods on Clifton Avenue and View of Cincinnati - 1800, appear in the Cincinnati History Library and Archives at the Cincinnati Museum Center.
