Rudolf Tschude was born April 27, 1855 in canton of Glarus, Switzerland. He was trained in Switzerland. He won First Prize at the Ohio Mechanies’ Institute shortly after arriving from Switzerland to Cincinnati. Tshude was known as a portrait, landscape, and still life painter. He married a German native Bertha Messer in 1878. They had “many children” including eldest son, Herman Tschude, b. 1879. Herman was an artist and engraver, worked in Cincinnati c. 1900-1925, died in Indianapolis. Rudolf was, in his later years. a friend of Frank Duveneck. He was also an active member of the Cincinnati Art Club.
