A Proud Heritage | Two Centuries of American Art
A Proud Heritage | Two Centuries of American Art
This book was inspired by the first exhibition that marked the historic opening of the new Terra Museum of American Art on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Sixty of the most important early American works of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and more than one hundred from the permanent collection of the Terra Museum were combined to form a most important exhibition of American historical art.
With its 260 color plates of American paintings covering a 200-year period, A Proud Heritage: Two Centuries of American Art, the recording of the exhibition, has resulted in a valuable new reference book on the subject of American art. Its 125 brief narrative biographies of some of America’s most important historical painters, with five special essays on segments of American art by Terra Museum historians, make this an important book for professionals, collectors, students, or for anyone just beginning to gain interest in American art. The first printing of 15,000 case-bound copies commemorated the opening of the new Terra Museum of American Art on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago.
